well, my car is broken Sad

gonna be putting a new distributor in this evening hopefully, and also gonna be hoping that that is the problem.

there is no spark, and its very intermitant, sometimes randomly stops, wont start for 1/2 an hour, sometimes wont start first thing in the morning, and its getting worse.

its got a fairly new coil and module, so we are trying a new dissy.
stupid electronics that are hard to diagnose....

yea, the module was replaced about 6 months ago, and is not getting hot at all, also the coil looks fairly new, so we thought we'd try the dissy first, and hopefully it should fix the problem.

thanks for the thoughts, i'll keep it in mind anyways

also, I might try my old boys haltec computer, which is tuned for his 355 holden v8 and see what difference it makes performance wise.

FIXED!!!!!!

yey, its working again, new dissy, $180 and its all good now.

also advanced the timing a fair bit, and its running way better, it was missfiring and all sorts of stuff before, i just hadnt got round the trying some timing advance.

need to get a timing light onto it so we know how much advance i'm actually running now. gonna keep cranking it up if i can, aslong as it doesnt start pinging. I run 98 fuel anyways, so should be able to advance a fair bit.

now i can back to fixing all the other stuff, and maybe even one day putting my stereo in...

I removed the POD filter and fitted the proper flexi pipe so now the cold air intake is actually being used like it should Smile

yea, it does seem abit better, i'll have to do some more driving before I know for sure.

the pod would have been pulling in some very hot air from the extractors and from the radiator fan.

I still need to chase some more problems, gonna try plugs next, then leads, and also gonna check over the fuel system, filter injectors and that.

I bent abit of the lip down on the radiator to make the opening into the CAI abit bigger aswell

woohoo, I have some sound now...

i spent some time last night getting the headunit in, and have for the moment chucked in some dodgy 6x9's in the holes that were already cut in the parcel tray, running off the headunit.

so i can listen to tunes at least. there was already rca's run, so i plugged them in, now i just need to get a sub amp, run power wire, put in front speakers, build a sub box and hook it all up and i'll have good sound, whooo.

I also did a full under car degrease and engine bay wash, and i can now confirm that there is definately rear main seal oil leak, and also rear gearbox seal.

so the motor will be coming out at some stage, cause you need to drop the crank to do the rear main in these motors. thinking about doing cam lifters and roller rockers at the same time its out, but will see.

yea thanks, but unless you can figure out a way to wire 2x dvc 2ohm subs into 1ohm, i'll have to pass on that one, as its 1000 @ 1, and 600 @ 2

i'll keep searching Smile

Are they 4 ohm coils or 2ohm?

Other option buy 2 for $299 each and then you'll have easy over 1000wrms.

But yeah I spotted them and thought of you aswell.

Had a look at that alpine too its a large looking amp thats for sure.

yea, 2ohm coils, i wanted the pair of subs to be 2ohm when both hooked up, so go the 2 coils into series to get 4ohm, then parallel them back to 2ohm.

yea that alpine sounds like it might be ok, might drop in thursday night to jb on the way home for a looksie atleast.

hang on so if each coil is 2 ohm that means each sub can be wired to 1 ohm that means u can have 1/2 ohm with 2 of them.

if they are 4ohm coils then each sub can be wired to 2 ohm which makes 1 ohm with to of them.

cause i can either go 1/2 ohm, 2 ohm, or 8 ohm

hmmmm.... interesting.

coz i used to run an amp at 1/4 ohm all the time that was 1 ohm stable and it didnt mind coz its still running in my car.

Well my mates getting one anyways so I may run some tests on it.

That and the small bonecrushers do 1/4 too and nothing said to be stable at under 1 ohm well not yet anyways.

but i'm sure it should do half ohm
