hey, i've being starting to work out dimensions for a box, and i'm curious as to what difference the port diameter will make.

when putting numbers into port length calculations, it shows that for the same tuned frequency, the larger the port diameter, the longer the port needs to be.

this is fine, as it makes at least some sense to me, but is there some optimal port size to aim for, eg, what difference would i have between say a 6" port 6" long, and a 8" port 12" long, as it calculates for a 4.5 cf box to both go to about 40hz

is bigger and longer better? or is the some point where it gets worse? any help much appreciated.

port size does play a huge role, get it wrong and it will sound like arse.

Port to small:,
It will not be able to move enough air so you will end up wiith chuffing, means the port is choking the box.

Port to large:,
The subs will over exert there for destroying the subs soft parts, like spiders, surrounds, coils, and cones.
