only the bottom end was stolen from nissan the top end is made by holden....... and i am assuming that is why you just cant bolt an RB25 head onto an RB30 block :/

really? fair enough, though i thought they were all nissan and they just changed the tapet cover to say holden.

so are you saying that holden made the top end for the r31 motors? or that they are different? just curious.

sounds like a pretty full on project. hit up me or wagonz if you need any rb30 stuff. also, got any pics?

not sure if this has been clarified properly ...
rb 30 in both the r31 and vl are exactly the same except 4 a few minor things ...

vl head was slightly modified by holden but head bolt pattern is exactly the same .... i.e. you can put a rb25 or rb26 head straight on still... not sure if they raised or lowered compression but they did modify the timing aswell .... thats why the skyline went better ... the reason for a slightly dulled down version in the vl was actually a clause in the contract that the vl must not be quicker and faster than the skyline ... lols .... but it is easy to modify them back to std apparently
