yea, you could try kaspersky, or avg works ok too.
the more stuff you chuck on an older machine, the more it chugs down, using stuff like limewire, and internet explorer you will pic up virus' or spyware all the time, and not know about it.
any sort of stuff like, yahoo tool bars, msn tool bars or anything else are not a good thing.
you could try cleaning it up with a virus and ad-ware scan, and then uninstalling everything you dont use, or you could do the back up and reformat / restore to original which will give you a clean slate, just means you have to start over getting any extra programs and that you use.
may i ask what virus scanner your using?
and yea, try and steer clear of limewire if you can. you could read up and learn about torrents if you wanted, google is your friend, but even they arent fool proof.
i actually dont even run a virus scanner on my computer at all, but i've being tinkering with computers for ages, and its not a concern for me, i wouldnt recomend it for the average user.
i would however, recomend not using internet explorer, and switching to firefox or chrome
let us know how you go with it, and if you have any other questions.
cheers _________________

Lol. I guess.
But still, all the suggestions are greatly appreciated, using firefox, getting rid of limewire, and getting rid of everything i dont need seem to have helped a bit, but i still might reboot the whole computer jus to make sure.
Thanks everyone |

I'd just get a mates portable HD if you can and go back to the start. It's a pain in the a*s to get everything the way you like it again but it's the only way to make sure everything is back to normal.
Any PC/laptop that is only a year old should still be fine today after a format. Even my parents 8 year old P4 2.4ghz is okay after a format and re-install of XP. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it now that I've put together a new PC for them, but it's always good to have a spare PC around. _________________ 82 VH wagon, 202 blue. 2x12" Alpine type S attached to an Eaudio1000D, pushing 1,000wRMS @ 1ohm. Similar to this?
If that's what it's like, it's called artifacting, and yes it is caused by your video card. If it used to handle games like that GRID, etc. fine and has only recently started doing it it may be caused by overheating, which in turn could be caused by dust build up on the video cards heatsink.
I'd say your first step would be to open up the case of your PC, grab your air compresser/can of compressed air, disconnect the power and give the video card's heatsink a good blowjob. If you've got one of those gadgets you hook up to your compressors air line to stop water going through it use it, if not just be really careful.
Try not to touch anything inside the case until you discharge any static built up in your body, in a PC shop they sometimes where anti static wrist straps, but I've always just made sure I touch the inside of the computer case/one of the screws holding the HD in before I play around with static sensitive things like RAM or the video card.
You could also try to reseat the heatsink with new thermal paste, as the old thermal paste/pad may have gone hard from overuse and is no longer transferring heat effectively. If the blowjob idea doesn't work I think I've got some decent thermal paste lying around, I could reseat it for you if you need it.
If you're still getting artifacting it's possible that the heat has permanently damaged the card, or that heat wasn't the problem in the first place, in which case you're best option is to give RMA a try if it's still under warranty, if not it's new video card time. RMA is where you return the card to the manufacturer in the hopes of getting a replacement. A lot of people manage to pull this off even if they've damaged the card themselves through static/general mishandling, so if you have a reasonably legit reason I'd say you've got a good chance. The warranty may be void if the heatsink has been reseated though, depending on the manufacturer. _________________ 82 VH wagon, 202 blue. 2x12" Alpine type S attached to an Eaudio1000D, pushing 1,000wRMS @ 1ohm.
