I was asked the other day how to eliminate engine whine through a sound system.

Now personally I have never encountered this problem in any of our vehicles so I thought why not throw the question out there for you all to throw input at.

So far I have told him.

Engine Whine.

Usually that sound is due to the rca's from the headunit to the amp running near a power source for example the power cable for your amp so run ur rca's away from your power source.

Another thing to check up on is where the power cable is running in the engine bay make sure that it is away from alternator fan and any other electrical wiring as this can also make it happen.

Also make sure that the headunit has got a very good ground and if possible give it a second ground so that it is grounded well.

Also I mentioned suppressors.

Anyone have anything to add to this?
Coz that's all I could come up with off the top of my head.

Please add your input if you know any other ways.

Cheers,

usually whine is caused by feedback loops. If you run "clean" power directly from your battery this shouldnt ever be an issue.

most rca's these days wont get induced noise from power cable, but we run them separately anyways.

generally, its from a ground loop issue.

basically, if your amps ground is sh*t, it will whine.

if you have amps grounded in seperate spots closer than about 50cm then you will get noise induced.

either ground them together, or like, a metre apart.

never use a filter. they are a bandaid, and can do more bad than good
